A) The majority of all surge-induced damage is caused by surges andspikes traveling along unprotected video, data and power lines. Thesesurges originate from a wide variety of sources, including staticcharge buildup and lightning strikes. Left unprotected, video and datalines expose cameras, digital video recorders, network video storagedevices, monitors, A/V components, and other network equipment todamaging electrical transients.

Lightning is the most common source of electrical disturbance totelecommunication lines. There are 865,000 lightning strikes each dayworldwide. Our surge-protected baluns are designed to prevent excessvoltage from damaging components on a CCTV video system. Althoughsurge-protected baluns will aid in minimizing the spread of damagecaused from a lightning strike, be advised that there is only limitedprotection: 2000 volts (passive) to 4000 volts (grounded active).
